Day 4-Edinburgh Castle, St. Andrews, & Glasgow
Today was a jam-packed day with visits to three different cities in Scotland:Edinburgh (including the castle), an afternoon in St. Andrews, and a night in Glasgow!
Did you know Edinburgh was named "UK's Happiest City?"
Here's an outside view of Edinburgh Castle.
We started off with a self-guided tour of Edinburgh Castle. It was a wee windy as the locals say but it was really windy for the rest of us. The Edinburgh Castle is full of so much memorabilia and sites such as a cemetery for officers' dogs, the Scottish Crown Jewels, and Mary, Queen of Scots, memorabilia.
Cathedral Ruins of St. Andrews
After a few hours of exploring historic Edinburgh we got on the bus and headed straight to St. Andrews golf course. We got dropped off at the cathedral ruins and then made our way down the coast and ended up on the 18th hole on the golf course. Since it was Sunday, we were able to walk on the golf course. We ended up going to some of the shops and we were able to get various golf gifts for family and friends.
We left the St. Andrews golf course as the sun was setting and enjoyed a scenic drive back to Glasgow. Our Premier Inn Hotel was right at St. George's Square. We split up into three groups and adventured to various parts of Glasgow. One group went to a Mexican restaurant, named Pancho Diaz, and ordered chips and salsa. The waitress actually brought them french fries and salsa since the British word for french fries is chips! Another group went to Citation, which was a very modern and nice restaurant. I took a group to the West End of Glasgow and we ate at the Bothy, which is very traditional Scottish food in a great restaurant. The staff even wear kilts!
